Later that day Morin abducted Margaret Palm from a local shopping center. Morin and Palm drove all day and Morin ended up boarding a bus to Austin from Kerrville.

Morin was apprehended in Austin ending a four-year FBI manhunt. Morin was a fixture on the FBI’s most wanted list for a number of years. At the time of his arrest Morin was a suspect in more than 30 violent crimes from coast to coast. Morin, a self-proclaimed “born again” Christian, shocked the legal community by becoming only the second man in Texas history to plead guilty to capital murder. “We discussed all the options. Stephen chose to plead guilty and with the state’s case against him it was his best defense,” said Pete Torres, Morin’s defending attorney. “Morin’s new-found faith was significant in his decision to plead guilty and withdraw all appeals.” Morin had no desire to fight his conviction or the death-penalty sentence.

“Morin knew he was guilty and was accepting of whatever the judge thought he deserved, he was a changed man and if the Lord wanted him to remain on Earth or go home to heaven, Stephen was willing,” said Charles Galloway, a friend of Morin’s. Up until the time of his death, Morin remained a suspect in over 30 unsolved cases around the nation. He chose to remain quiet on those cases. “Morin never discussed those cases with me until they came up in litigation, and even then he was and unclear when discussing them,” Torres said. “Stephen was involved in an awful lot but he told me he honestly had no recollection of any crimes he may have committed, Murrey said.

Morin looked forward to his execution date and served as an inspiration to the other inmates on death row. “Stephen was prepared and referred to his execution as a graduation day,” said Murrey. “We were the first to see Stephen that day and all day he kept joking and saying this was a ‘great day,” Galloway said. Note: It is unlikely we will consider anyone without prior experience moderating on reddit. Tonight I learned about the story of Sarah Pisan, who was stalked by serial killer She was featured on an ID Discovery Show called Obsession. It's a pretty crazy story- after Morin killed her co-worker friend Cheri, he set his sights on her, sending her threatening pages and also appearing to Sarah at the gas station she managed.

He told her an alias name, and constantly asked her off. When they found Cheri's body, they found her wallet that had a piece of paper with Sarah's name and home address. This tipped off the Vegas police, who informed Sarah that she needed to leave the area. What makes it so creepy and scary was that even though Sarah moved away to Texas, Stephen Morin wouldn't let go- what finally got him caught was when he went down to Texas and committed two murders. He was obviously biding his time and trying to get to her. I just came over here to post about this guy, having seen the same ID special.

I was astonished I'd never heard of Morin before, especially given how horrific his M.O. Here's an interesting piece at The Guardian from a man who, as a kid, knew Morin as his mother's boyfriend: (I'm having trouble locating the original blog post, as Clark has evidently moved blogs and the link he's provided to the post on the new blog isn't working - I don't know how much more there is to the piece than what The Guardian excerpted.). I will say, having read the article on Murderpedia linked above and some discussions elsewhere, that it's enormously strange how many people accept Morin's death row 'conversion' to Christianity as truthful.

Much like Bundy's final interview before his execution (with James Dobson of Focus on the Family) where he claims he was corrupted and driven to murder by pornography, it seems far more likely that Morin's last words were a final attempt at manipulating his 'audience' (especially with how back-handed his prayer is, calling on the Lord God to forgive his executioners as God has forgiven him, e.g. Equating his own execution. with the rapes and murders he committed). While there are some criminals who I am sure are beyond rehabilitation, I'm not personally comfortable with putting anyone to death, especially when so many people on death row might not be guilty of the crimes they have been sentenced to death for. Regardless, I find Morin's supposed godliness to be nothing more than a final cruelty, based not in any real moral reasoning, but rather in the desire to once again elevate or establish himself as above the people around him.
